Oriental Medicine, Harmonic Vibration and Planetary Responsibility
Acutonics® is a profoundly transformational and coherent system of sound healing. It incorporates ancient Taoist teachings of the meridians, pre-meridians and the immortal body. This harmonic system provides a comprehensive methodology that is rooted in Oriental Medicine, Music Theory and the Vibrations of our Planetary Ecosystem. Acutonics emphasizes the cosmologically rooted principles of Chinese Medicine, with its worldview of the inter-connectedness of all things, in all places, and in all time. All connects to the seamless fabric of humanity. If we are to usher in a new era of consciousness that has some hope for planetary healing it is imperative to remind a person, on a cellular level, of their interdependence with all the living systems that surround them. Acutonics can balance the physical body, but more importantly, it has the direct ability to re-awaken a deep appreciation for the whole Earth Body.

Donna Carey, PhD, LAc developed the Acutonics Harmonic approach to Oriental Medicine when she was clinical dean at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Carey co-founded the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing, creators of the Acutonics System of Healing & Education. The sound vibrations used in the Acutonics Healing system represent the elliptical orbits of each planet. In 1930 Hans Cousto, a Swiss mathematician, took the orbital velocities that had been formulated by Johannes Kepler and translated them into the musical tones. By ‘playing’ calibrated tuning forks, an Acutonics practitioner permeates the whole being of a person with the vibrations of our cosmic ecosystem, harmonizing their cells and their DNA to the very frequencies from which they evolved. The forks can be applied directly to meridians, acupuncture points, trigger points, and chakras. They also work when applied off body, as a way to regulate dosage, to apply vibrations homeopathically and to balance and restructure the Etheric bodies.

The Ancient Chinese perceived humans as a microcosm of the universe that surrounded them, suffused with the same primeval forces that motivated the macrocosm; a singular continuum within and without. Disease was considered to be a manifestation of imbalance with respect to the natural cycles of life: metabolic cycles, seasonal cycles, and emotional cycles. The modern day practitioner of Acutonics has the ability to weave and layer holographic symphonic treatments using ‘the music of the spheres’ as Pythagoras called it, entraining the body into ‘right relationship’ between its internal and external cycles. In some ways the depth, scope, and refinement which Acutonics provides can be considered revolutionary and a significant advancement in the medicine, but in truth, the snake keeps eating its own tail, for the system is invoking, and making immediately viable, its Shamanic past, and its Celestial origins.

In my clinical practice, a large population have suffered from sexual abuse. Acutonics allows me to apply the wisdom of Oriental Medicine through a non-invasive technique rather than penetrating the physical body with needles. I have more often found that when using sound, people release the attendant emotions that correspond to their physical ailments. Sound penetrates through the cracks in a person’s emotional and physical blocks. It facilitates deep access and clients demonstrate greater courage in engaging because they feel that they can ride on the back of the sound. Working with the momentum of the sound there is less fear of getting stuck and re-traumatized. It also facilitates the problem of emotional transference in the therapy. When the injury has been to the trust, sound can be the bridge to healing.

Sound continues to reverberate through the body days after a treatment, with patients reporting sustained states of peace and release of pain. One patient was suffering from 27 days of menopausal menorrahgic uterine bleeding. I applied a few rounds of Saturn in combination with the home tone Ohm, (Earth traveling through the four seasons), to the area of her uterus, in order to astringe and restrain the bleeding. Saturn offers the energy of limits and boundaries and structure to our lives. I then applied 6 rounds of the Solar 7th (the Sun fork with the Low Ohm) to Spleen 1. She stopped bleeding on the table and didn’t resume. The energy of the Sun fork relates to the concept of Yang. It is warming and strengthening, invigorating and uplifting. I substituted the sun fork for the traditional protocol of moxa, which can sometimes burn the skin and provoke allergies and asthma.

It is both the archetypal energies of the forks themselves and the musical intervals created by two forks used together that govern their function. It is in the ‘space in-between’ that true healing happens. For example, the combination called New Moon 5th employs the particular energetic qualities of the New Moon and the interval of a 5th. The New Moon is a time when the ethers are more transparent, as the veils between worlds are very thin. The New Moon combined with Ohm creates the interval of a 5th, which is energetically ‘opening’. I use this same combination when addressing yin accumulations like edema, and lipomas, or menstrual disorders, for the Moon is the ruler of Yin and the 5th helps to gently disperse through its opening action. I also use this combination when someone is having difficulty releasing emotions or finding inner guidance. I used the solar 7th, in the above case. A 7th sounds slightly dissonant, or edgy, because it pushes for the resolution of the octave. This reflects and supports the activating, motivating qualities of the Sun.

The cross-cultural experience of the specific effect of certain intervals and the collective influence of archetypes creates a truly holistic form of healing. Vibrational machines, like Radionics, target isolated and discrete parts of the system, re-entraining them to a particular frequency, but that part will most likely revert back to its disharmonious state when the stimulation is removed because the entire gestalt of the vibrational field has not been addressed. Acutonics approaches the body from the perspective of harmonizing the whole system with its natural cyclic macrocosmic melody. The inherent wisdom of the body subsequently adjusts its millions of particulars accordingly. Other tuning forks that are calibrated to the Western Even Tempered scale offer the power of Intervals, but do not help the body regulate itself to the cosmic frequencies that provide the fundamental nutritional field needed for the system to flourish.

The Earth suffers from commercial domination and environmental exploitation because people suffer from gross under-development of the heart, bloating of the left-brain, a total abandonment of wisdom traditions, and the sustained perception of separation. It is, therefore, crucial to call on all the resources that have the power to integrate and harmonize a person with their natural habitat. By directly applying the very vibration of the Earth to the body, we can reawaken the deep knowing of our interdependence. Every cell in our body remembers and has awareness of this vibration. We can break through our modern day inertia by resonating the body to the frequency that truly sustains, nourishes and heals us, so that we, in turn, may heal the Earth. To do so we must learn how to re-attune to our heavens-earth axis and to re-embed ourselves into the great fabric of evolution. Acutonics is not just about learning a methodology based on wisdom traditions, it is about connecting us with universal perspectives, and the greater imperatives of our time. Resonating with the sounds of our universe has the power to lead us to unified vision, harmonic revelation, and personal and planetary transformation.
